Tiger Woods sends 4am text messages to fellow PGA Tour stars that belong on the High Performance pod

Tiger Woods has been putting in the hard yards ahead of his return action this week at the Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas.

The 47-year-old will appear at his first golf tournament since withdrawing from the Masters in April before undergoing surgery on his right ankle.

But Woods has been anything but slack in his latest comeback and shown he is as disciplined as ever.

Woods has reportedly been texting fellow golfers from the gym at 4am, asking them what they are ‘doing to get better’.

TV analyst Brandel Chamblee revealed that he has been made aware of certain PGA Tour players who have received text messages from Woods at 4am saying: 'I'm in the gym. What are you doing to get better?'

Clearly his early-morning gym sessions are having a profound effect on Woods who hit his first tee shot 326 yards.

The four-time Masters winner - who is playing alongside friend Justin Thomas at the event - registered two pars at the start of his round before he birdied the third to move to one-under.

Woods, who played just nine holes in Wednesday’s pro-am to ensure he was ready for the first round on Thursday, birdied the fourth to drop to level par then birdied the fifth.

Despite an injury-ravaged year, Woods is still motivated to compete and believes he can win major honours in the sport.

“I love competing. I love playing. I miss being out here with the guys. I miss the camaraderie and the fraternity-like atmosphere out here, and the overall banter,” said Woods.

“But what drives me is I love to compete. There will come a point in time, I haven't come around to it fully yet, that I won't be able to win again. When that day comes and I'll walk.”
